For centuries, African animal art has served as a means for various tribes to illustrate the intricate bond between humans and the natural world. Symbolism lies at the heart of this artistic tradition. Elephants

Among the Baule-Yaure of the Ivory Coast, elephants represent ultimate political power. Masks highlighting features such as large ears, trunks, and tusks are worn by tribal leaders and the most senior members of the community.

Hornbills

The Guerre-Wobe tribe of Liberia creates masks that combine human characteristics with the formidable beak of a hornbill. These masks are used in village ceremonies to encourage collective cooperation and to perform rituals thought to harness magical powers.
